A Kitchen Reimagined: Before & After

This home already had great bones, generous square footage, and beautiful natural light, but the finishes and layout felt dated and heavy, preventing the space from truly shining.

Our goal was to create a kitchen that felt lighter, more cohesive, and intentionally designed — a space that supports everyday living while feeling elevated, timeless, and inviting.

Before: Dated & Heavy

Before the renovation, the kitchen was dominated by warm-toned wood cabinetry and an awkwardly place peninsula that cut the kitchen off from the dining area.

The storage areas were also a problem. The old-school style pantry was dysfunctional, with shelves that made reaching back past the second row of cans a real pain. The cabinetry stopped awkwardly short of where the dining room is, so the largest wall was underutilized.

After: Light, Layered & Timeless

The transformation completely rebalanced the room. We introduced a fresh, neutral palette anchored by crisp white cabinetry, warm wood tones, and soft stone surfaces to create a sense of openness and calm. We took the cabinetry to the ceiling, extending the eye upward, which instantly makes the room feel taller.

One of the most impactful changes was eliminating the cumbersome peninsula and replacing it with a long, functional island that includes seating on one end. By incorporating warm wood cabinetry and pairing it with a luminous, patterned stone countertop, the island now feels like a furniture piece — grounding the space while adding warmth and character. Removing the peninsula also opened up the room.

Speaking of the island, the gorgeous granite was our inspiration for the rest of the space. See those beautiful tones of green, purple, and beige? We designed the rest of the finishes – tile, cabinet colors, wall color, etc., to highlight the beauty in this stone. The stone is a perfect example of a finish that truly reflects our clients’ personalities and taste. It’s not a “safe” choice – it has personality! And we’re all for that!

We removed the microwave above the range and added a beautiful statement hood that coordinates beautifully with the island wood finish. This new hood introduced a sculptural element that adds depth without overpowering the space.

A Kitchen That Connects

This renovation wasn’t just about aesthetics — it was about flow and livability. The kitchen now connects effortlessly to the adjacent dining area, making it ideal for entertaining, family gatherings, and everyday moments alike. Natural light floods the space, highlighting the textures and finishes that make the design feel layered and intentional.

Every choice was made to ensure the kitchen feels timeless rather than trendy — elevated but comfortable, refined but welcoming.

The Result

The finished space is bright, functional, and beautifully balanced. What was once a visually heavy kitchen is now an inviting centerpiece of the home — one that supports the homeowners’ lifestyle while reflecting a thoughtful, artful approach to design.

This project is a perfect example of how thoughtful updates and intentional materials can completely transform a space without completely altering its footprint — proving that sometimes, the most impactful changes are about clarity and cohesion rather than starting from scratch.
