Before and After: Modern Elegance Unlocked

Before

The family room, dining room, and powder room had great foundations but lacked cohesion, warmth, and a sense of intentional design.

The family room felt subdued, with neutral gray walls, dark furniture, and a layout that didn’t fully maximize the space’s potential. The double step down with carpeted stairs was a dated look that our clients really didn’t love. The room also lacked drama – with the stepdown, it has 10-foot ceilings, yet the ceilings were bare and uninspired. The fireplace was also the wrong style for the home and didn’t stand out as a focal point. The overall decor felt disconnected from the room’s bright natural light and open layout.

The dining room was similarly understated. Though the room boasted classic wainscoting and rich hardwood floors, it lacked color and texture. The dark furniture dominated the space, and the decor leaned functional rather than decorative.

The powder room was serviceable but plain. With a simple vanity, minimal decor, and a neutral palette, it functioned well but didn’t make a design statement. It lacked the personality and elegance that such a small, frequently used space can offer.

After

We reimagined these spaces with a cohesive design vision that brings them to life while enhancing their functionality and charm.

In the family room, we created a space that feels vibrant, inviting, and modern. We replaced the carpet with warm hardwood that adds depth and texture.

We completed redesigned the fireplace and turned it into a stunning focal point with bold blue tile, framed by a sleek white mantle.

Perhaps the most dramatic change is the ceiling! The new coffered ceiling makes the room’s dramatic height more palatable and adds some much needed visual interest.

We replaced the heavy furniture with a mix of soft cream sofas and dramatic navy accent chairs, paired with a round brass coffee table that ties the seating area together.

Pops of green and navy in the pillows and rug add layers of color, while curated original artwork above the fireplace and on the walls bring personality to the space. The result is a family room that feels welcoming, stylish, and perfect for both relaxing and entertaining.

The dining room underwent a similar transformation, embracing bold color and texture. The addition of deep green drapes accentuates the height of the windows while complementing the vibrant blue-green area rug.

We carefully styled the space with a mix of contemporary and classic decor. A bold mirror with a navy frame adds depth and reflects light.

The new sideboard and buffet lamps create a sophisticated, cohesive look. The dining room now feels fresh and inviting, striking the perfect balance between formality and warmth.

The powder room became a showstopper with its dramatic design. A bold geometric wallpaper with gold accents creates a luxurious and modern feel, while the green vanity with gold hardware brings an unexpected pop of color.

The marble countertop and scalloped gold-framed mirror add sophistication, and the brass fixtures tie everything together. A custom piece of wall art and Roman shades finish the space with charm and style, turning the once-functional powder room into a statement piece.

The Result

This transformation turned three functional but uninspired spaces into rooms full of personality, style, and purpose. The family room, dining room, and powder room now flow seamlessly, creating a home that is both stunning and comfortable—a true reflection of modern elegance.
