For this project, our clients asked for a study that felt intimate yet inspiring—a space where they could read, relax, and reconnect at the end of a long day. The existing room had great bones, but it needed a thoughtful upgrade to bring out its full potential. With a blend of modern comfort and timeless character, we transformed this study into a cozy retreat with a refined point of view.

Moody Walls, Elevated Light
We leaned into the richness of the room’s architecture by painting the wall paneling a deep, dramatic black. Instead of feeling heavy, the darker palette creates a luxurious cocooning effect, especially when balanced with intentional pops of color and light. To keep the space from feeling too serious, we added a soft, floral-patterned wallpaper to the ceiling, drawing the eye upward and giving the room an unexpected, artistic moment.

A Window Seat That Invites You In
The bay window was already a standout feature, so we upgraded it with a custom-upholstered window seat to turn it into a true destination. With a tailored cushion and bolster pillows, it now serves as the perfect reading perch, sun-soaked workspace, or quiet spot to enjoy morning coffee.

Comfort-First Seating with Style
To encourage lingering conversation, we placed two plush, pale-blue armchairs facing one another, anchored by a sculptural gold side table. The seating feels soft and welcoming—an elegant contrast to the darker walls—and creates a layout that naturally supports relaxation. A pair of round ottomans provide convenient extra seating or a place to prop your feet. (What you can’t see is a TV directly across from the two chairs. This room is for more than just reading!)

Thoughtfully Curated Storage
The built-in shelving on either side of the room was refreshed and styled with a combination of personal mementos, art, and functional pieces. The black backdrop makes every item feel intentional, adding layers of personality and warmth without feeling cluttered.

The Result: A Refined, Livable Escape
This study is now a balanced blend of mood and comfort. It’s sophisticated enough to feel elevated, yet relaxed enough to be lived in daily. By honoring the architecture and layering in fresh upholstery, soft color moments, and updated lighting, we created a space that feels both grounded and inspiring. It’s the kind of room that invites you to slow down, settle in, and stay awhile.
