A home should evolve with the people who live in it. As life changes, sometimes a few thoughtful updates are all it takes to make a space feel fresh while keeping the character and charm you love. Our Classic Collected project in Hudson, Ohio, is a great example of how we can give a home a fresh look without losing what makes it special.
We updated several areas of the home, including the kitchen, sunroom, laundry room, and staircase. With a mix of beautiful finishes, custom furnishings, tailored window treatments, and plenty of color and pattern, we brought everything together while keeping each space personal.
The result is a home that feels classic but not stuffy, with fresh details, better functionality, and a collected look that feels like it came together naturally over time.
A Kitchen Refresh With Color and Character

The kitchen is one of the most-used spaces in any home, so we wanted this one to feel just as functional as it is beautiful. The existing white cabinetry gave us a great starting point, and we used that classic foundation to introduce some fresh finishes and color.

One of the biggest changes was painting the existing cabinet in this gorgeous shade of green! We love how the deeper green cabinetry adds contrast to the white perimeter cabinets and gives the kitchen a little more personality. We also updated the countertops, added a beautiful herringbone backsplash, and switched out the hardware for a more polished look.

The gold geometric pendant lights above the island are another favorite detail. They add just the right amount of interest without taking away from the rest of the kitchen. (These were added during a previous project, but you can see the rest of the kitchen wasn’t touched.)
The Finishing Touch: Custom Window Treatments

And of course, we can’t forget the window treatment! The colorful patterned fabric above the sink ties together so many of the colors throughout the space. It’s a great example of how one small detail can make a big difference in a room. We custom designed this baby from scratch – it’s one of our favorite things to do!

We often say that window treatments are the jewelry of a room, and this kitchen is proof! They soften the space, bring in color and pattern, and make everything feel a little more finished.
A Sunroom That Finally Gets to Shine

This sunroom has some pretty amazing features, especially all those windows and the beautiful views of the backyard. We wanted to make those features the star of the show while creating a comfortable space where the family could relax and spend time together.
The biggest visual change was updating the wood-paneled walls and ceiling with a fresh paint. Yes, the ceiling is a light blue – aka “haint blue” for you Southern folks! This instantly brightened the entire room and helped draw attention to the natural light coming through the windows.
We also brought in a beautiful beaded chandelier, which adds a little elegance and gives the room a fun focal point.

Custom Furniture Makes All the Difference
When it came to furnishing the sunroom, we really focused on creating a layout that made sense for how the family would use the space.
We selected a large, comfortable sofa, coordinating chairs, and an oversized upholstered ottoman to create a seating area that’s perfect for conversation, relaxing, or just enjoying the view.

One of the biggest benefits of working with an interior designer is having access to custom furniture options. Instead of trying to make a standard piece fit a space, we can select furniture with the right dimensions, fabrics, finishes, and comfort level for each client.
We kept the larger furniture pieces light and neutral, then added personality through colorful pillows, a patterned rug, and accessories. We also mixed in plants and collected pieces to make the room feel comfortable and lived-in rather than overly styled.

The finished sunroom feels so much brighter and more inviting, but it still has that cozy feeling that makes you want to sit down and stay awhile.
Giving the Staircase a Fresh Look

The staircase already had some beautiful traditional details, so our goal was to update the look while keeping that classic character.
We refreshed the railing finishes and selected a new patterned stair runner that brings in texture and a more neutral color palette. The new runner feels sophisticated while still being practical for a busy household.
The white-painted brick wall makes a huge difference in brightening the space and gives the homeowners’ artwork a beautiful backdrop.

One of our favorite details is the collection of blue-and-white plates displayed along the staircase wall. We love incorporating meaningful pieces and collections into our designs because they make a home feel personal.
Not everything needs to be brand new to make a space feel fresh! Sometimes it’s about finding a new way to showcase the things you already love.
Making the Laundry Room Both Pretty and Practical

Laundry rooms might not be the most exciting rooms in the house, but we think they deserve some love too!
For this space, we wanted to create a laundry room that felt organized, functional, and just as thoughtfully designed as the rest of the home.

We replaced the wood cabinetry with crisp white cabinets and updated brass hardware, giving the room a much lighter look. The new countertops provide plenty of workspace, and the green geometric tile backsplash adds some beautiful texture and color.
One of the more practical updates was incorporating a built-in spot for the family dog crate. It’s a small detail that makes a big difference in how the room functions day to day..

These thoughtful details demonstrate that a laundry room can be both hardworking and beautiful.
Bringing the Whole Home Together

One thing we always think about when working on multiple rooms in a home is how everything connects.
Each space should have its own personality, but you also want the house to feel cohesive as you move from room to room.
For Classic Collected, we used different shades of green, warm wood tones, colorful fabrics, and classic patterns to tie everything together.
The green kitchen cabinetry connects beautifully with the laundry room’s backsplash and wall color. The patterned window treatments add personality, while the sunroom’s furniture and textiles bring in another layer of warmth and color.
We also made sure to incorporate the homeowners’ existing pieces and collections wherever they made sense. We never want a home to feel like everything was purchased at once. We love when a space feels like it has been thoughtfully collected over time.
That’s really where the name Classic Collected comes to life!
