Some spaces don’t just need updating — they need re-composition. Artful Mosaic began as a home with solid bones and generous square footage, but one that felt visually quiet and disconnected. Our goal was to transform the kitchen and main floor into a cohesive, expressive environment where color, pattern, and form work together like a curated collection.
We approached this redesign much like a work of art: layering materials, balancing contrast, and allowing each element to have its moment while still contributing to the whole.
A Kitchen as the Canvas
The kitchen became the heart of the transformation. Where the original space leaned neutral and utilitarian, we introduced intentional moments of visual interest that feel collected rather than contrived. Clean-lined cabinetry in soft, warm tones creates a calm backdrop, allowing the more expressive elements to take center stage.
The backsplash is the star — a rhythmic mosaic of color and shape that brings movement and personality into the space. We selected each color purposefully to tie in colors found throughout the home. Its geometry feels playful yet refined, acting as functional art that draws the eye and anchors the room. Paired with sleek countertops and modern appliances, the kitchen now feels both elevated and approachable.
Color with Purpose
At the center of the room, the island is a statement piece. We selected its rich, saturated hue to ground the space and introduce warmth, acting as a visual counterpoint to the surrounding cabinetry. More than just a place to gather, it serves as a sculptural element — a focal point that defines the kitchen’s new identity.
Throughout the main floor, we used color thoughtfully and intentionally. Each tone was selected to complement the next, creating a flow from room to room that feels curated and cohesive.
Have you noticed the floor pattern? This large-scale parquet was Lindsey’s idea – a fun play on traditional small parquet.
A Cohesive Main Floor Story
Extending beyond the kitchen, the main floor now reads as a unified composition rather than a series of separate rooms. We carefully selected materials, finishes, and sightlines to ensure continuity, allowing the eye to move effortlessly through the space.
Our clients have some beautiful heirloom furniture that we incorporated into their dining room. Instead of a major overhaul, we added a new rug, chandelier, and paint color to the space. That was enough to make a huge impact!
The sunroom features all new decor, including a gorgeous wool rug whose tones pair beautifully with swivel chairs and wall color. The valances were crafted by the talented homeowner. (Isn’t that bunny lamp cute? We love integrating out clients’ quirky items!)
In the family room, we were able to redesign this space mostly using items the clients already owned. We hung their amazing artwork in different locations, added a new quilt (also made our the talented client), added new window treatments, and selected a new rug to tie in the colors from the kitchen.
Artful Mosaic is a celebration of thoughtful design — where everyday living meets creativity, and where a home becomes a reflection of the people who inhabit it. It’s proof that functional spaces can still be expressive, layered, and full of soul.
