Our goal with this Aurora, OH, home was to preserve the home’s traditional charm while introducing a lighter, refined palette inspired by classic French interiors.

Before: Warm Tones and Traditional Styling
Before the transformation, the home features rich wood furniture, heavy warm textiles, and floral accents that lean toward deep reds, golds, and earth tones. In the living room, cream upholstery pairs with darker patterned rugs and traditional floral drapery, creating a space that feels comfortable but visually dense against the tall walls and expansive windows. The dining room continues the same warm palette with a carved wood table, matching hutch, and upholstered chairs in muted floral fabrics.

While the furniture pieces themselves are beautifully crafted, the combination of warm finishes, darker rugs, and heavier textiles visually anchors the rooms and competes with the architectural openness of the home.

After: A Light French-Inspired Transformation
The redesign introduces a cooler, elegant palette rooted in classic French blues, soft neutrals, and refined patterns. Custom drapery immediately transforms the living room’s soaring windows. Instead of the heavier floral panels, the new drapery features a delicate blue and ivory pattern with tailored trim that frames the windows while allowing the natural light to remain the focal point. The vertical scale of the fabric emphasizes the height of the space and adds a sense of softness without overwhelming the architecture. And look at those tassels!

Furniture selections are carefully updated to maintain a traditional foundation while introducing a lighter, more curated aesthetic. A soft neutral sofa becomes the anchor of the room, layered with blue and green accent pillows that echo the tones found throughout the space. Accent chairs and ottomans are upholstered in fresh fabrics, bringing in subtle French-inspired patterns that add dimension without visual heaviness.

The new rug becomes one of the most impactful changes in the living space. A large blue patterned rug grounds the room while introducing the cooler color palette that defines the design direction. Its intricate pattern references classic European textiles and ties together the furniture and accessories throughout the room.

Reupholstery and Furniture Refinement
Rather than replacing every piece, we carefully refine and reupholster existing furniture to honor the home’s traditional character. Dining chairs receive updated upholstery in soft blue tones with elegant ties, transforming the original warm floral seats into something lighter and more refined. This simple change refreshes the entire dining room while preserving the craftsmanship of the carved wood furniture.

Additional accent seating throughout the home receives new fabrics that align with the updated palette, blending French-inspired prints with soft neutrals. The result feels layered, intentional, and timeless.

Styling and Decorative Details
Styling plays an important role in completing the transformation. Decorative elements shift away from warm-toned florals and instead incorporate blue-and-white ceramics, fresh florals, and lighter accessories that reflect the new palette.

Table lamps with classic French silhouettes, curated pillows, and thoughtfully placed floral arrangements add softness and balance to the architecture of the space. Each detail works together to create a home that feels elegant, airy, and effortlessly refined.
The Result
The finished design preserves the home’s traditional architecture while introducing a fresh French-inspired aesthetic. Custom drapery, reupholstered seating, updated textiles, and thoughtful styling completely shift the mood of the interiors from warm and dated to light, timeless, and sophisticated.

The transformation proves that thoughtful updates to fabrics, color palette, and styling can dramatically elevate a space while still honoring the character of the original home.
